Colder temps, and shorter days can only mean one thing, winter is coming…

For our family that means, hot cocoa, lots of homemade baked goods, and sleigh rides. I remember how magical snow days used to feel when I was younger…no school, endless time outdoors (well, until we were hungry or soaking wet from the snow), and the amazing feeling of wandering into our cozy home to warm up before heading out for our next adventure.

Like winter, the holiday season has many of us spending more time indoors. Whether you’re engaging in quality time with family and friends, or catching up on much needed alone time, you (and you’re loved ones) can benefit from diffusing essential oils in your home. Diffuser blends have the power to refresh the air, dispel unwanted odors, and simplify your wellness goals.

Holiday Essential Oils

When I think of the holidays, I am reminded of the smell of wood burning fire against the clean, crisp air. The taste of delicious orange cranberry bread, and the twinkling of Christmas lights. The sound of classic Christmas songs on the radio and in nearly every shop we visit. And, the feel of cozy blankets wrapped around me, as I snuggle up on the couch with the girls for a holiday movie.

What makes the holidays special is that we fully immerse ourselves in them, and in turn the season becomes a full on sensory experience. I for one believe that invoking the use of our five senses helps memories live on forever in our heart and mind.

What if you and your loved ones were instantly transported back to the happy memories you created in your home every time they smell the refreshing, woody aroma of black spruce, or notes of your signature holiday blend?

How to Make a Diffuser Blend

There are three ways to use essential oils, and I cover all three right here. Diffusing oils is incredibly easy and allows you to experience their benefits almost immediately. When it comes to crafting your own diffuser blend, think about what kind of atmosphere you would like to create and let your nose be your guide.

But first, let’s lay some ground rules for which oils pair well together. That way you can get started off on the right foot.

Below is a list of essential oils that blend well together:

Spicy (like Cassia, Cinnamon Bark, Clove and Ginger): blends well with wood, floral, and citrus oils
Woodland (like Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Douglas Fir, and Siberian Fir): blends well with mint, floral, herb, spicy, and citrus oils
Minty (like Peppermint, and Spearmint): blends well with wood, herb and citrus oils
Herb (like Rosemary, Basil, and Thyme): blends well with wood, and mint oils
Floral (like Lavender, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang): blends well with wood, spicy and citrus oils
Citrus (like Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, and Wild Orange): blends well with wood, spicy, floral and mint oils
