The Last Week of Preschool! (Free Preschool Curriculum)

free-preschool-curriculum

We’ve made it to the end of preschool! Can you believe it? This is a huge milestone for you and your preschooler.

This week will be a review week focused on fun games to reinforce what you have been working on throughout the year. So, things will look just a bit different as you scroll through this post.

There is a link to an end of year assessment to bring light to any trouble spots. These are areas that you should focus on (more heavily) between now and kindergarten.

There is also a kindergarten readiness checklist for your piece of mind. If you are transitioning your preschooler to traditional school in kindergarten, ask the school if they have a checklist of their own to share.

Make sure to continue reviewing all math, language arts, and “about me” facts with your preschooler in between now and the first day of kindergarten.

But, the most important thing to do this week is have fun, and celebrate how far you’ve come. Take a look at all of the work you have completed throughout the year. It would be a fantastic time to scan all of these documents into a digital portfolio, or create a memory book filled with pictures, and your preschoolers most cherished works of art.

Great work this year! Okay, hold back the tears, and let’s see what the last week of preschool is going to bring your way…

Pre-K Homeschool Week 30 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our last week of preschool:

Preschool Alphabet Recognition + Phonics

Each day this week review all letters of the alphabet – name, sound + phonics. You can do this by laying out a stack of ABC flashcards, and asking your preschooler to point to the letter.

Play Letter Sound Stomp (Forward with Fun). This fun game focuses on the beginning sound of vocaulary words you may have worked on throughout the year.

Here is another fun alphabet activity from Forward with Fun! Get your preschooler moving one day this week, and challenge them to identify and practice the sound of each letter of the alphabet. You can even challenge them to find the letters of their name!

Another fun activity for alphabet review is “We’re going on a picnic”. Grab a ball/balloon/bean bag and toss it back and forth as you work your way through the alphabet. Ex.: I’m going on a picnic, and I’m going to bring apples. The person you toss the ball to goes next and might say “a blanket”.

As a reward this week, you might let your preschooler have some screen time to explore the letters on Starfall

Review the difference between vowels and consonants.

Tip: Keep your set of ABC flashcards handy for whenever you set aside time to read with your child each day. Review the name and sound of each letter. When it’s their turn to read, they will have a better chance of sounding out any trouble words because the letters will be fresh in their mind.

Read 1 Level C book with your preschooler each day. Remember they will be expected to read at a D level when they leave Kindergarten so, any work you do here will be beneficial.

Story Time Suggestions:
The Knowing Book, Rebecca Dolitch
I Wish You More, Amy K. Rosenthal
And any favorites from throughout the year!

Number Recognition Activities

  • Practice counting to 100 by 1’s every day
  • Review numbers 1 – 30, have extra bubble wrap laying around? Try this game from Hands on as we Grow!
  • Puzzle time (this helps with fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and patience)
  • Play card games War + Go Fish
  • Number Scavenger Hunt – play this game after reviewing numbers with your child. That way you will better recognize the trouble spots. My girls seem to have difficulty with numbers 11 – 15. You will need two different color post its. The first set of numbers will be stuck to the wall. Then, place little post it notes around the house with matching numbers (to the first set). Have your preschooler hunt for the number and match it to the corresponding number.
  • Practice your home phone number with your preschooler. Make up a fun tune so it will stick in their head.

Preschool Shapes + Colors

  1. Play the shapes matching game
  2. Shapes and Color Bingo (a FREE download from The SPED Corner, Teachers Pay Teachers)
  3. Break out your tangrams and see what new creations you can come up with! Here’s a set you can print out, color and cut.
  4. Nature Shapes – head outside and have your preschooler make a collection of shapes with rocks, twigs, leaves, whatever you can find!
  5. Color Wheel/Rainbow Colors Scavenger Hunt – find items around the house that match the colors of the rainbow and group them accordingly. Take a picture when you’re finished!

Here are some fun songs to help your preschooler with shapes and colors!

About Me Facts a Child Should Know

First Name Art: have your preschooler write their name in chalk on a dark piece of paper. Have him/her glue small pieces of tissue/construction paper over their name in varying colors to create a beautiful work of art.

Address: draw a picture of your home + practice your address with your preschooler.

Birthday: show your preschooler a calendar for the month they were born, and share their birthday with them. Your preschooler should also know their age, and how old they will be for the next birthday! You may consider doing this for all the members of your family. My girls love figuring out who their birthday buddies are.

Work on this All About Me Book throughout the week.

If your preschooler has mastered their first name, now is a great time to have them work on their last name too!
