TICK-REPELLENT

Earlier this week, Sadie sat down at the breakfast table, complaining that she could feel a bump on her head. She just woke up so there was no way that she could have hit her head. So, I examined her scalp, and that’s when we found it…a tick!

I cannot explain how much I hate those insects…

Our veterinarian explained that ticks do not die here in Tennessee because the weather just doesn’t get cold enough. So, not only is it important to protect your pups if they spend a ton of time outdoors but, the kiddos need safeguarding against these parasites too.

I’m going to be honest with you, we didn’t buy 10 acres of land so our kiddos would sit inside all day. We want them outdoors as much as possible. So, I knew I had to figure out a way to keep them safe while they’re outside building fairy houses, slaying (imaginary) giants, or spending some time under their favorite magnolia tree in our side yard.

Then it happened, my lightbulb moment! I decided to create an essential oil blend to keep the ticks, and hopefully other bugs at bay. I know it sounds weird but, even though I’ve been using oils for a few years now, I sometimes forget that I have natural solutions at my fingertips. Okay, time to share this recipe with you!

Tick Repellent Ingredients List

20 drops of TerraShield essential oil
10 drops of Lemongrass essential oil
1 tsp of vegetable glycerin (optional)
Top with water

Mix all ingredients in a 4 oz (amber) glass spray bottle. Mix well. And, spray affected areas.

I like to spray this tick repellent on the girls hair, clothes, skin and shoes. Vegetable glycerin has a ton of benefits for skin and hair so I decided to add it to this recipe but it’s totally optional if you do not have it on hand.

I hope this recipe helps your kids, you and the pups (too) spend more time outdoors!
