How to Use Lavender Essential Oil

When I began my journey with doTERRA, I was in search of an all natural approach to stress relief. Cue in lavender essential oil, the oil of calm.

Lavender Three Ways

Widely used for its calming qualities, Lavender provides soothing comfort to the skin while relaxing the mind. This must have essential oil can be used aromatically, topically, and internally. Not to mention, the myriad of health benefits should you choose to incorporate it into your daily routine.

Aromatically

Lavender can be used in a diffuser, or spray bottle. One of my favorite mattress sprays includes this oil, and it’s part of my linen laundry day routine. I find that when I spray this calming oil on the girls’ pillows, mattresses, and even their stuffies, everyone gets a sound, restful sleep.

While Lavender can freshen up a room in a spray bottle, you can also add 2-3 drops to your diffuser to receive the same aromatic benefits. For instance, when the girls are congested, and having trouble sleeping, a blend of 3 drops each of Lavender and Breathe is always in the diffuser. Let’s talk about some diffuser blends you might want to try:

Liquid Calm
3 drops Lavender
Balance (a great roller blend as well)

Seasonal Support
2 drops Lemon
Lavender
Peppermint

Relax + Unwind
2 drops Lavender
Wild Orange
Frankincense

Sweet Dreams

Cedarwood
Vetiver

Spring Cleaning

Topically

Did you know that Lavender essential oil is safe to use neat a/k/a straight out of the bottle? Of course, use your judgment here when dealing with babies or the elderly. If you are not comfortable with applying this oil neat, be sure to use a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil. But, as someone with sensitive skin, I can tell you I have used it in this way, and have had no issue.

The liquid calm blend mentioned above, is perfect for a roller bottle too! It’s perfect to roll over pulse points, and along the spine if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, or if your little one is having a tantrum or feeling anxious. This top 10 oil might also help to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. In fact, I use my touch roller when the girls get a bug bite, along with the tea tree touch roller. Both work wonders in relieving the itch, and soothing the skin.

Whenever Nora and Sadie are under the weather, or just feeling restless an epsom salt bath with a few drops of lavender mixed in does wonders for their body, mind and spirit. Finally, applying this oil to the bottoms of your feet right before bedtime will encourage a restful night’s sleep.

Internally

Full disclosure, I have not used this oil internally yet. But, it is the perfect essential oil to use while cooking. Lavender can soften citrus flavors, and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods and desserts.

You might even consider trying this Lavender Blueberry Milkshake!
