My Honest Review of the Dyson V8 Animal Vacuum
Dyson is a brand that has been in our home for at least a decade. So, when it came time to let go of our old vacuum we knew we would splurge for a Dyson again. But, did our new Dyson V8 Animal Cordless meet the standard?
Our first Dyson was gifted to us at my bridal shower, the Dyson Ball Complete System. It was the first vacuum of its kind, and one I absolutely loved for its ease of use. I loved it so much it moved with us to San Diego, then back to New York again.
But, when it came time to move to Tennessee, my beloved Dyson was showing some wear. And, to be honest we were in the market for a cordless version after seeing them everywhere on social. Yes, I was influenced (bows head in shame).
So, after expressing gratitude for its many years of service, our Dyson Ball was relieved of duty. But, can I tell you something? Letting go of that vacuum is a move I wholeheartedly regret.
Three Reasons Why You Should Overlook the Dyson V8 Animal Cordless
Battery Life. The excitement in the air was palpable when we unboxed our Dyson V8 Animal Cordless. I mean, you would be excited too if your kids wanted to vacuum right? But, we all had to hold our enthusiasm so our new vacuum could go through its initial charge. No biggie.
Once that was taken care of, 24 hours later, imagine my complete shock when the vacuum went caput 15 minutes after we began. Our East Tennessee farmhouse is just under 1100 square feet, and I made it through half of that square footage. I have since learned to change my technique, which I will talk about more in suction power…
Suction Power. This vacuum does pick up animal hair,dust and dirt. But, can you use it as a one and done cleaning solution? The short answer, no.
At first, that was my thought process. Being that this vacuum claims to capture allergens and deep down dirt who would think otherwise? Please let me know if I am being too critical here.
But, one day I decided to swiffer after vacuuming to see if this Dyson stood up to the challenge. And, that’s when I found a swiffer full of dog hair. Ugh! I had just vacuumed. So, here is my method when it comes to daily floor maintenance, swiffer first then, vacuum. This also helps with that pesky battery life issue mentioned above.
Carpet v Hardwood Flooring. Does the V8 Cordless work on both carpet and hard surface floors? Yes, but not the same. If you are moving from hardwood to carpet (or vice versa) you will encounter some sputtering. A minor issue I’ll admit but an inconvenience nonetheless.
At the moment we only have 2 5×8 area rugs in our home, and if I want to feel like I’ve done a thorough job with this vacuum, I spend at least 5-10 minutes on each one. Keeping in mind the battery life restrictions.
Should You Buy This Cordless Vacuum?
In my opinion, the Dyson V8 Animal Cordless is a great supplement (not replacement) to your standard vacuum. Best used in small spaces, or for certain spaces in your home, like stairs, tight or hard to reach spots. Or, maybe even your car?
So, I would not recommend this purchase. Even though I did here in my tried and loved series back in August. After 6 months of use, I can certainly say I would not buy another Dyson cordless system again.
