The transition from winter to spring (this year) on Long Island has taken a lot longer than necessary. Just last week, after having continuously warm, sun filled days, I collected all of our winter jackets, and threw them in the wash to store them away until next season. I was so sure of myself…
So, imagine my surprise when we were hit with a wave of 40 degree weather.
Needless to say, this DIY is perfect to use now (in the transition from winter to spring), and in the cooler months that we just weathered.
Regardless, did you know that your skin is your largest organ? I was a lot older than I’d like to admit when I learned that fact. So, it’s important to be very picky when you choose something to lather and moisturize with. And, that’s why opting for natural ingredients was the best decision for me and my family.
DIY BODY BUTTER INGREDIENTS
- Shea butter
- Cocoa butter
- Extra virgin coconut oil
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
- 25 drops essential oil (optional)
ESSENTIAL OILS FOR SKINCARE
Adaptiv Calming Blend is perfect for life’s most stressful moments. This essential oil is one of my absolute favorites because it increases feelings of tranquility. You can also diffuse this blend to promote a centered and calm mindset. And, it is my essential oil of choice for this homemade body butter.
Serenity Restful Blend is always on our essential oil shelf. Trust me, add three drops to a diffuser in your little one’s room, and they will have the best night’s sleep ever. And, you too, will never want to be without it. In this body butter, this proprietary blend will help you unwind, and bring feelings of peace.
Lavender – the floral, airy scent of Lavender can produce calming, and relaxing benefits. Lavender is also known to soothe occasional skin irritations. Add this oil to your diffuser to reduce anxious feelings, or add to your shampoo to help keep hair looking thick and healthy.
Copaiba – promotes clear, smooth skin and reduces the appearance of blemishes. Furthermore, this essential oil can help soothe and calm the nervous system when taken internally. The oil of unveiling is a multi-tasking must have for your oil collection.
Frankincense – known as the oil of truth, for centuries Frankincense has been used for its soothing and beautifying characteristics – particularly for rejuvenating the skin and promoting feelings of relaxation.
ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS
- Shea Butter – the perfect addition to this all natural, body butter. Packed with vitamins A and E this ingredient will promote healthier looking skin, and will soothe dry skin fast.
- Cocoa Butter – softens and nourishes your skin because it contains a high amount of fatty acids that help to moisturize, and heal.
- Extra Virgin Coconut Oil – I recently started using coconut oil in the kitchen again. Just tonight, I sauteed some broccoli with a pinch of salt, garlic + onion powder. And, the girls happily ate their veggies without any trouble. Whenever I cook with EVCO, I always make sure to rub the excess on the tops of my hands (my hands go through alot). And, that’s because of the protective , and nourishing qualities of this oil. If you haven’t already tried EVCO in your all natural skincare routine, you will be amazed.
- EVOO – the key to this ingredient is getting your hands on a quality, cold pressed EVOO. So, those olive oils in plastic bottles are a no go. But, if that’s all you have, don’t be afraid to use it. This healthy fat is packed with antioxidants, and will have a glowing effect on your skin.
