Here Are 6 Essential Oil Blends for Spring
One of my favorite ways to use essential oils is to come up with new pairings for diffuser blends. Why? Well, because adding oils to your diffuser makes for an aromatherapy experience that the whole family can enjoy.
We are just about ready to say goodbye to spring, and hello to summer. Here in Tennessee, school has been out for a few weeks, the pool is open at the community center, the park splash pads are filled with happy little faces, and all of the summer activities are in full swing. For us here at home we have just 12 more days of homeschool! And thankfully, this school year is ending a bit differently than our second year.
Our plans for the summer are simple, swimming lessons, dance class, and summer reading. To be paired with meetups with friends, and exploring as many swimming holes and splash pads that we can find here in East Tennessee. While we are fully excited for the adventures that the days ahead will bring, there will also be times of rest where we will be enjoying quality time right here at home. And for those moments, you better believe our diffusers will be quietly running in the background.
Why You Need A Diffuser If You Use Essential Oils
Have you ever smelled something and were immediately transported to another time or place? Scents are powerful! They can create a shift in our mood, wake us up, and even lull us to sleep. The aromatic benefits don’t stop there, essential oils have the ability to purify the air, open your airways if you are congested, and boost the immune system.
Here’s how it works, when you inhale an essential oil:
- The molecules of the oil go to the back of each nostril
- To the epithelium patch where the molecules attach to receptors
- They’re converted to nerves that send the odor information to the olfactory bulb in the brain
- This bulb communicates directly with the amygdala, hippocampus, and other brain structures
Disclaimer: you will notice a positive difference in your home if you choose to use your diffuser daily to support your mind, body and spirit.

How to Make a Diffuser Blend
There are three ways to use essential oils, and I cover all three right here. Diffusing oils is incredibly easy and allows you to experience their benefits almost immediately. When it comes to crafting your own diffuser blend, think about what kind of atmosphere you would like to create and let your nose be your guide.
But first, let’s lay some ground rules for which oils pair well together. That way you can get started off on the right foot.
Below is a list of essential oils that blend well together:
Spicy (like Cassia, Cinnamon Bark, Clove and Ginger): blends well with wood, floral, and citrus oils
Woodland (like Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Douglas Fir, and Siberian Fir): blends well with mint, floral, herb, spicy, and citrus oils
Minty (like Peppermint, and Spearmint): blends well with wood, herb and citrus oils
Herb (like Rosemary, Basil, and Thyme): blends well with wood, and mint oils
Floral (like Lavender, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang): blends well with wood, spicy and citrus oils
Citrus (like Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, and Wild Orange): blends well with wood, spicy, floral and mint oils
