Free Pre-K Homeschool Curriculum, Week 16 – The Butterfly

butterfly

This week our preschoolers are going to be introduced to the life cycle of a butterfly, and their magical transformation.

In summary, we will be covering our traditional subject areas – math, motor skills, language arts, etc. Some of the activities you can look forward to are planning a visit to a nearby butterfly garden, or simply spending an afternoon butterfly catching in your own backyard. There are loads of activities from read alouds, to educational videos, and music that will aid your preschooler in learning all about the metamorphosis of butterflies.

Additionally, the letter of the week is F so, be sure to scroll ahead for more activities to build literacy. In math we will be working on the number 14, as well as building 3D shapes.

There are loads more activities to explore, just continue reading below.

Pre-K Homeschool Week 16 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 16 theme:

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Playdough Geometry (Schooltime Snippets) – I first introduced this activity in Week 9 when we were learning all about transportation. And, I imagine this activity will show up again because it’s just that good. Let’s be real, kids LOVE playdough. And, this geometry activity does not disappoint.

Domino Addition (Math Salamanders) – A fantastic way to build our preschoolers math skills. There are a ton of worksheets available on this site. However, it is suggested that your preschooler be able to count to 10/20 (depending on the worksheet), and recognize said numbers before introducing addition.

Introduce, Write, and Count Number 14 (123 Homeschool 4 me)

Missing Number Sequence Pattern (Superstar Worksheets) – I have shared this resource before because there are a ton of pattern worksheets to choose from. Pick one of your favorites!

Measure the Line (Math Salamanders)   – Measurement and data is a concept that will be built upon in kindergarten. Just focus on the introduction here in preschool.

Fine/Gross Motor Skills

Butterfly Lacing Card

Mrs. Plemons Kindergarten has a list of activities for butterfly week right here. We chose: feed the hungry caterpillar, catch the butterfly, and playdough butterfly.

Go for a bike ride to your local park/nature preserve. Don’t forget your butterfly nets!

Language Arts

Introduce the letter “F”- show your preschooler the capital and lowercase letter F, and introduce the sound of this letter. Next, have your little one try to create the letter F with playdough. Watch the letter “F” on  Starfall

Letter F Phonics (Flashcard Fox) – These flashcards will help your preschooler connect the dots between the visual letter, and it’s sound. Don’t forget to print out two copies to create a memory game.

Letter F Collage (Early Learning Ideas) – I especially like F is for foil (we all have some in the pantry, am I right?), and F is for feathers.

Trace letter F + phonics review (Daycare Worksheets)
