An Easy, Natural Homemade Playdough Recipe

Homemade Playdough | Danielle Ravitch

The girls and I love a good DIY project, and I love the opportunity to create all natural alternatives of our household favorites. This time the project on the docket was playdough. I never knew it could be so easy to make this childhood favorite right here at home. Let me tell you about the perfect diy recipe…

Earlier this month I shared a little bit about the Benefits of Aromatherapy here. And, this recipe is a great way for the kids to experience the benefits too. Full disclosure, the first playdough recipe we made included baby oil, and we hated it! Something about the texture and the scent just left us wishing we could find a better way. A more natural alternative…

Then we found doTERRA’s Aromatherapy Playdough recipe, and we love it. You can definitely make this recipe without essential oils but, incorporating relaxing oils like Lavender, Adaptiv or Copaiba, always does the trick for calming the girls down. To be honest, there are a ton of oils you can choose from depending on your needs.

  1. Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils in a large saucepan and stir until combined.
  2. Once combined, put over a medium heat. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, stir ingredients together until it forms a ball.
  3. Remove from heat and put on parchment paper or cookie sheet and allow to cool.
  4. Once playdough cool, add you favorite essential oil.

*Don’t overcook as it will lead to dry playdough. Make sure to stir frequently, scratching the bottom of the pan often.

Playdough + Imaginative Play

Playdough + Imaginative Play | Danielle Ravitch

We have made this recipe a number of times here at home – we’ve added glitter and different food coloring. But, for this go around, we added yellow food coloring because this week we are exploring our solar system. We added star shaped cookie cutters and small astronaut toys to the experience so the girls could take their imaginative play to the next level.
