Motivate Your Family To Be Healthier

Motivate Your Family to Be Healthier | Danielle Ravitch

Hey friends, welcome back to the blog! Today I am going to share some simple, foundational tips for improving your family health. I often get questions about the boundaries we set within our household, from nutrition to screen time and everything in between.

As a mom, health and wellness is something that is constantly lingering on my mind. Thoughts like, is it healthy to eat a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich for breakfast every morning? Or, is there really a difference in serving up organic mac n’ cheese? And, how many hours in front of the boob tube is socially acceptable these days?

Lets be honest, it isn’t easy to keep our own healthy habits in check, let alone try and reel in the entire family. But, there are simple steps you can take in order to make family health a priority.

Family Health Made Simple

1. Create A Healthy Home Environment

Creating a space that feels comfortable and safe is so important when it comes to your physical, mental and emotional health! If you’re looking around right now and thinking, jeez I wish my place was less “xyz”! I am right there with you. There is always room for improvement right?

Well, here are a couple of tips you can employ right now to get your space closer to your dream vision (grow where you are planted!), and increase your family health and happiness –

  • Clean and Declutter Your Space
Taking time every week to clean and organize is definitely not something I look forward to. Weekends are supposed to be for relaxing right?! But, here’s the thing…if I don’t clean or get organized, I get stressed!

I like to eliminate stress where I can so, I try to stay on top of a clean routine. If you don’t want to sacrifice your weekends to cleaning and decluttering, I don’t blame you! There are a ton of routines out there to get behind. Here is one I like to refer back to.

  • Hang Pictures Throughout Your Home
Whether its abstract art, bible verses or pictures of loved ones. Art work can boost mood, promote creativity and express the values of the loving home environment you are trying to create for your family. It may even inspire you to capture more of those precious everyday moments for your new gallery wall!

2. Home Cooked Meals

Cooking at home allows you to control portion size, ingredients and try out new recipes! Aim for nutrient dense meals. Think veges, healthy fats, whole grains and leans proteins.

When you have a few “go-to” recipes under your belt, you can try replacing any processed foods with fresh, organic foods. Unhealthy additives can lead to inflammation within the body which is proving to be the root cause of all disease. Check out this post for more simple tips on healthy cooking!

3. Prioritize Rest

Quality sleep is the most underrated form of self care. Most of us are not getting the amount of rest we need in order for our bodies to function properly. If you’re feeling stressed, run down or just like you are in a perpetual brain fog, you must try to adjust your sleep schedule.

I don’t know about you but my little ones have energy that I am envious of! But, they also don’t know when they have hit their limit, and then all hell breaks loose! Because literally anything can set off an over tired toddler/kindergartener.

It’s important we lead by example, and show our family that rest is just as important as play! Start making each family members bedroom a little serene oasis for quiet time and relaxation.

That’s it! Three easy ways to prioritize family health. These foundational tips are sure to motivate your family to be healthier! Which tip do you think your family would benefit from the most?

I hope you found this helpful! Thanks for stopping by!
