How to Make A Nourishing + Delicious Detox Smoothie

detox-diet-smoothie-Danielle-Ravitch

Hey there! As a follow up to last week’s post where I shared all about my experience with the 10-Day Detox Diet – which you can read more about right here. Today, I am going to share my version of Dr. Hyman’s Protein Shake. I have been making this detox smoothie each day for breakfast since Day 2 of the detox.

If you have a hectic morning or aren’t a breakfast person, this recipe might just change your mind. With simple, wholesome ingredients, you’ll have this blended up and ready to go in ten minutes. But, before we get into the recipe, let’s talk about some of the ingredients I use and why, so you can see how this detox smoothie is good for your health.

Chia Seeds

A superfood, and a staple in our house. You can find chia seeds in our salads, smoothies, oatmeal and more! Chia seeds are packed with fiber, omega- 3 fatty acids, calcium, and are a good source of iron. These tiny seeds would even stand up to the test of the pickiest eater because they have virtually no taste.

Flax Seeds

Another great source of fiber! I used to add flax seeds to my yogurt for an a.m. snack but, I am trying my best to steer clear of dairy. So, now I add this wholesome food to my breakfast smoothie. As a great source of fiber, flax seeds are known to improve your digestion, and because they are a high source of fiber, flax seeds will keep you fuller for longer.

Wild Blueberries

With 2x more antioxidant power, these delicious berries are known for improved brain health, heart health and more. According to Wild Blueberries, “the anthocyanins found within these berries have been shown to fight inflammation in humans”. And those of us who practice holistic health know that inflammation is the root cause of all disease.
