How to Use Bergamot Essential Oil
Happy Thursday friends! If you are new to the blog, you may not know that I was regularly releasing video content over in the classroom. This content is all about holistic health and wellness. If you are interested in learning how to integrate essential oils into your routine, a majority of the videos were focused on essential oil education.
However, I am in the process of re-evaluating how to package up this content for you. I would like my videos to act as an extension of my blog, where you can find powerful resources to guide you on your journey to better health. And, I’d also like it to be a space where we can interact, connect and grow together.
But, just because I am taking the time to consider how I would like to show up in video format, doesn’t mean the education has to stop. With that in mind, today I am going to share one of my favorite essential oils, Bergamot.
Until I figure out the kinks, this is the new spot where you can uncover how to use the oil of the week, three ways – aromatically, topically, and internally. I might even let you in on some of my favorite essential oil blends, tips and tricks.
BERGAMOT THREE WAYS
Bergamot is one of the most unique citrus oils. It is known as the oil of self-acceptance because it is simultaneously calming and uplifting – making it ideal for dissolving sad or anxious feelings. Emotionally this oil helps you to release the feeling of not being good enough. Physically, Bergamot is known for its skin purifying benefits. Let’s unpack how to use Bergamot three ways…
AROMATICALLY
One of my favorite Bergamot diffuser blends is – 3 drops Bergamot, and 1 drop Arborvitae. Just 4 drops in the diffuser will not only purify and cleanse the air but, uplift and calm the atmosphere too. Additionally, Bergamot blends well with oils like – Ylang Ylang, Lavender, and Patchouli.
Another blend you might like is 3 drops Lavender, 3 drops Bergamot, and 2 drops Patchouli. We already highlighted how Bergamot is known for its calming effects, making this oil perfect to diffuse right before bed time, so you can ease into a peaceful night’s sleep. Just make sure to start your diffuser 30 minutes before bedtime so the aromatics can do their job.
HOW TO USE BERGAMOT TOPICALLY
Topically, you can apply Bergamot to soothe and rejuvenate your skin. Here is a great diy you will want to back pocket for later:
Skin Brightening Serum
10 drops of each of the following essential oils: Bergamot, Frankincense, Melissa + Blue Tansy
Combine each of the above essential oils in a 10 ml roller and top with the carrier oil of your choice.
Apply serum to the area of concern.
If you don’t have all of the oils on hand for the skin brightening serum, just add a drop or two of Bergamot to your favorite all natural cleanser to take advantage of its skin purifying benefits. I highly recommend this one.
**Do be careful when applying this oil to your skin because Bergamot is highly photosensitive. You must avoid sunlight for at least 12 hours after applying topically.**
INTERNALLY
Do you like shortbread? If you answered yes, then you need to check out this recipe for Bergamot Shortbread. And yes, it is completely safe to enjoy this doTERRA essential oil internally. As we mentioned before, this oil is from the citrus family so, you might even try adding a drop to your favorite tea. Or, 2-4 drops to your favorite chicken/fish marinade.
What oil do you have but don’t know how to use?
