Tea Tree Essential Oil is Safe to Use Topically and Aromatically

Tea Tree is best known for its purifying properties which make it useful for cleansing the skin, home surfaces and purifying the air. A few ways I like to use this oil are by adding a few drops to my shampoo to cleanse my scalp, especially after using hair products or on a hot summer day.

This essential oil is also a part of an essential oil blend that I put together for a mattress spray that I created and use religiously every week. Now that the bugs are back my tea tree touch roller is never too far behind because it helps soothe the skin after a bug bite. And when sickness strikes here at home, I always reach for Tea Tree and OnGuard (2 or 3 equal drops) for each and every diffuser.

But, this oil blends well with so many other essential oils too! Ready to discover some more blends for your diffuser?

Topically

Did you know that Tea Tree essential oil hails from Australia’s melaleuca plant?  First discovered by the aboriginal peoples of New South Wales, this essential oil is now used globally for its cleansing and toning properties.  I shared some of the ways I like to use this oil topically above but, let’s get into some other diys you can try right at home.

Soften and Soothe Foot Lotion
1 teaspoon beeswax
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
4 tablespoons shea butter
1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
5 drops tea tree essential oil

How to Make this DIY:
In a small glass container, combine all ingredients EXCEPT the essential oils. Place in a saucepan with 1-2 inches of boiling water. Stir the ingredients until combined (5 – 10 minutes). Once melted, remove from the heat and let cool. Then, add the essential oils. Place mixture is a airtight glass container, and place in the refrigerator. Once the mixture is solid, use an electric mixer until the lotion is light and fluffy. Apply to feet to help soften and soothe.

Here’s another great DIY you will want to backpocket for later, especially if you’re looking to detox your personal care products:

Clay Face Mask
2 teaspoons bentonite clay
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 drop each:
Frankincense
Lavender
Tea Tree

Combine the first two ingredients and mix well. Then, add essential oils. Apply this paste to clean skin. Let it sit for 10- 15 minutes. Remove with a warm washcloth in upward circular strokes. Tip: Use this mask right before the shower because it can get a little messy.

Internally

Do NOT use this oil internally. One surefire way to tell if it is safe to use doTERRA’s oils internally is by checking the bottle for a “supplemental facts” label. If your oil bottle has it, it is safe to ingest.
