FREE Homeschool Preschool Curriculum, Week 17 – Fairy Tales

Fairy tales are classic stories that live on through generations. More often than not, these stories hold cautionary tales that share an important moral or life lesson. Such as the difference between good and evil, overcoming obstacles, and staying true to yourself in the face of adversity. So in other words, these tales help young minds understand the world around them.

Which is why it is a fantastic theme to share with your preschooler this week. In addition to stories such as Rumpelstiltskin and Little Red Riding Hood, we will sing some imaginative nursery rhymes this week during morning circle time. For language arts, the letter “O” is our focus this week, along with two new sight words for the vocabulary book!

Let’s dive into this fantastical fairy tale week of learning…

Pre-K Homeschool Week 17 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 17 fairy tale theme:

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Fairy Godmother Maze (printactivities.com) – mazes help children build their concentration levels, spatial awareness, and problem solving skills.

Introduce the number fifteen (Kindergarten Mom) – in Kindergarten your child will learn how to count to 100 on their own. In this curriculum, the focus is on the numbers 1 – 20. But, don’t let that hold you back if your child has already mastered these numbers. In upcoming weeks we will introduce the concept of skip counting, and count to 100 together.

Fairy Tale Measurement (Kindergarten Matters, Teachers Pay Teachers) – I’ve mentioned this before but the free resources on Teachers Pay Teachers are invaluable, and you should absolutely sign up for a free account. Measurement activities at this age focus mainly on comparing and contrasting the various sizes of different objects. These activities will lay the foundation for measurement activities in later grades.

Addition (Math Salamanders) – adding to ten is a skill that will be further developed in Kindergarten but, this activity will help them to understand patterns in numbers, and lay the foundation for further exposure to the four operations. However, there are other activities you can do to further develop this skill. Each day find a way to incorporate addition and subtraction into your conversation. Whether its setting the table, putting away toys, or a trip to the grocery store, there’s always an opportunity to learn.  Example Question: You have five cookies, if I ate one, how many would you have left?
