Looking for a New Diffuser Blend? Here are 7 Essential Oil Blend Recipes
Spring is just a few short weeks away, can you believe it? Some of us may have spring cleaning on the brain so, I wanted to take the opportunity to share a diffuser blend that can help you freshen up your space. And, as someone who refills our household diffusers, (sometimes as much as 3 times each day,) I can tell you, these essential oil blends have been in my diffuser nonstop.
The days are getting longer here in Tennessee. At this time of year the sun is setting after 6:30 p.m. which means our family gets more time to spend outdoors. Have you noticed it too? I’m not sure why this realization always seems to creep up on me. But it also brings so much happiness along with it.
We’ve been grateful to have a number of days in the high 70s already! Mixed in with threats of high winds, and heavy rains too. But, I’ll take it over the threat of snow, and temperatures in the 30s any day of the week. That’s what our family is facing back on Long Island.
For our family spring means a lot of things, it’s the start of – a very busy birthday season, our very first garden, deep cleaning (which is hard to do when demo is an ongoing project), and observing the wonders of nature. Right now, I hear several bird calls outside my window as the sun is set to rise within the hour.
Yes, each season brings a certain magic along with it, and this spring promises nothing different.

Essential Oils for a New Season
When I think of spring, I think of the scent of fresh cut grass, and mud after an afternoon rain shower. That freeing feeling of opening the windows, after a long winter shut in by the cold. And, the smile a persistent warm breeze brings to my face, like a welcome old friend.
Creating essential oil blends can have the same comforting effect. Not only can diffuser blends purify the air, and dispel unwanted odors; they can transport you back to a memory too. Kind of like how whenever I smell oil, I think of my Dad coming home from work (he has an HVAC business). I am instantly transported to sitting at my kitchen table, as I watch my Dad walk through the kitchen sliding glass door.
Creating a diffuser blend can do the same for your family. Remind them of the sweet days spent at home, a special afternoon, or you! So, aside from the many health benefits integrating essential oils can have, they also help us tell our story, and make it one to remember.
The Essential Oils You Will Need for the 7 Blends
- Clary Sage – the oil of clarity and vision, clary sage promotes a restful sleep but, is also good to throw in your early morning diffuser.
- Clementine – I would choose you any day over Wild Orange! Citrus oils are known for being uplifting, and this oil is no different.
- Grapefruit – creates an uplifting and motivating environment.
- Northern Escape – this is a woodland blend that creates a tranquil, positive space. Put it in your diffuser morning or night, you won’t be disappointed.
- Patchouli – I find that a little bit goes a long way with this essential oil. Patchouli is an earthy aroma that can help you feel more grounded and balanced.
- Purify – one of my favorites, this oil smells so fresh and so clean. It’s perfect on its own in the diffuser but, you can see below which I’ve enjoyed pairing it with lately.
- Tea Tree – one of the top ten essential oils! This one is versatile and can be used for many reasons. In this case, we are adding it to our diffusers to disinfect/ purify the air. It’s one of the many items in my toolbox when sickness overcomes our little farmhouse.
- Serenity – always on hand. Serenity is a great calming proprietary blend for kids and adults alike. It’s great on its own in the diffuser but even more magical when you find oils that blend well together, like my friend (siberian fir)…
- Siberian Fir – 100% honesty I use this oil to activate my balance deodorant. So now that you know how close we are, I can tell you that this is one essential oil that is absolutely perfect for your diffuser.
- Zendocrine – as a detoxer, bka someone who participates in annual cleanses, I can tell you this oil was specifically designated for my water glass. That is, until….UNTIL, I visited a local salt cave that had (solely) this oil in their diffuser, and it was heavenly. If you can’t bare to leave this essential oil on its own in the diffuser, check out which I think you should pair it with below…
How to Make a Diffuser Blend
There are three ways to use essential oils, and I cover all three right here. Diffusing oils is incredibly easy and allows you to experience their benefits almost immediately. When it comes to crafting your own diffuser blend, think about what kind of atmosphere you would like to create and let your nose be your guide.
But first, let’s lay some ground rules for which oils pair well together. That way you can get started off on the right foot.
Below is a list of essential oils that blend well together:
Spicy (like Cassia, Cinnamon Bark, Clove and Ginger): blends well with wood, floral, and citrus oils
Woodland (like Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Douglas Fir, and Siberian Fir): blends well with mint, floral, herb, spicy, and citrus oils
Minty (like Peppermint, and Spearmint): blends well with wood, herb and citrus oils
Herb (like Rosemary, Basil, and Thyme): blends well with wood, and mint oils
Floral (like Lavender, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang): blends well with wood, spicy and citrus oils
Citrus (like Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, and Wild Orange): blends well with wood, spicy, floral and mint oils
