outer-space-free-preschool

3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!! Welcome back for a week in outer space!

There are so many fun activities in store this week for you and your preschooler. A gross motor skills test is in the works to make sure your child will be ready for kindergarten. If there is any difficulty with any of the motor skills be sure to spend more time working with your preschooler on the specific activity that is causing trouble.

The letter of the week is “W”, scroll ahead for more activities to build literacy. You will be heading over to your local planetarium or observatory to get a closer look of the night sky. Want to get crafty? I think you’ll appreciate the selection of art projects this week. My favorite? The handprint alien craft!

OUTER SPACE SCIENCE/SENSORY ACTIVITIES

Peruse National Geographic’s, First Big Book of Space – this is a book that both Nora and Sadie enjoyed thumbing through. When they would find a page that caught their interest we would usually read it together.

Create a space sensory bin like Our Potluck Family.

Discover the constellations with Constellations for Kids, and see if you can find one in your night sky!

Pick a constellation to research and design your own planet together (Mama Cheaps, email sign up required for download)

MUSIC

Teach your preschooler about the planets in our solar system with The Planets Song! A family favorite here at home.

Pick 2 rhymes to learn this week from Lessons 4 Learners. We chose Tuning Up for Outer Space, and Climb Aboard the Spaceship.

This solar system song remembers our ninth planet, Pluto. And, is a great alternative or addition to the planet song above.

ARTS + CRAFTS INSPIRED BY OUTER SPACE

Sam over at Simple Everyday Mom has a list of 20 crafts you can make for outer space week click here to choose your own. We chose galaxy slime, and handprint aliens.

I love the idea of this Constellation Jar, and I’m pretty sure your kiddos will too!

The mixed media approach to this craft from Adventure in a Box is what caught my eye, and look at how beautiful it turned out! I think I’m going to swap the buttons out for pony beads because we have a ton of them lying around. Email sign up is required to download this template.
