Free Homeschool Preschool Curriculum, Week 7 – Snow
Hi friends! This week is the first installment for the winter season, and we are going to introduce our preschoolers to snow! Now, depending on where you live, your little one might already be well acquainted with this weather phenomenon. But, don’t worry because there are a ton of free resources I found from around the interwebs that will have your preschooler engaged and excited for the week ahead. Even if winter is the primary season in your neck of the woods.
Pre-K Homeschool Week 7 Free Resources
If this is the first post you are reading, I am a homeschooling mom to our two beautiful daughters. This is the second year we decided that our kids’ education would be better served at home. To be honest, last year I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants. But, this year, I have a much better handle on it all.
One of my major struggles was finding educational resources and materials to keep my three year old busy while I was working with my oldest who was in first grade at the time. Sadie wanted to do school work just like her big sister, but there were days when she just didn’t feel up to schoolwork too. Being that she was three, I kind of let her call the shots when it came to school. Play is the work of childhood (Jean Piaget) after all, right?
However, being that my three year old was calling the shots, I didn’t want to spend money on expensive resources or a preschool curriculum. I mean, with just a little bit of digging there are a ton of free resources you can find that will do the job.
So, that’s when my weekly research began…
And now, after a full year of digging, I know where to find all the good stuff. The free resources that tick all of the boxes, and that will get our preschoolers well- prepared for their first day of kindergarten. It only makes sense for me to share them here with you.
And, whether these curated resources help you find one killer freebie to work on with your preschooler, or saves you hours of sifting through the internet, its well worth the hours of effort on my part.
Okay, here we go, keep scrolling down to see what’s in store for our snow theme in week 7.
Math Activities for Preschoolers
Tangram Patterns (PreKinders) – I am a huge fan of tangrams! These geometric puzzle pieces help children become more aware of geometric shapes as they use their imaginations to construct different patterns. This week, we will be using the snowflake pattern block mats from PreKinders. My girls had fun creating different snowflakes but, be careful you might run out of puzzle pieces so, choose your patterns wisely.
This week we will be introducing/working on the number 6. Here are two activities to support our preschoolers:
Trace and Write the Number 6 (K5 Learning)
Number Hunt, The Number 6 (Best Coloring Pages)
Snowflake Measurement (Teachers Pay Teachers) – Free on TPT. I highly suggest you create an account on this site. Yes, a majority of resources are for purchase but, you can also find some amazing freebies here as well!
Snowflake Winter Math Pack (Simply Kinder): a cute math packet perfect for this week! We used the snowflake addition sheet but, it also includes subtracting, measurement and counting activities as well.
Shapes Memory Game (Let’s Do Puzzles)
Fine/Gross Motor Skills
This week fine motor activities cross over with our art activities too so, make sure to look for those below if you’re in need of more ideas.
The Snowflake Hop (Pink Oatmeal) – this resource is available for purchase only (bummer) but, whose to say we can’t be inspired by this gross motor game to create our own? If you are short on time, try winter gross motor dice instead.
Build a Snowman Activity Tray (Happy Hooligans) – I set this activity out for my girls to keep them busy while I made breakfast. I was surprised at how long this kept them busy. They started off slow but then eventually made a whole snow family.
Snowflake Balance (Happy Toddler Playtime)
Language Arts
Introduce the letter “B” and have your preschooler get hands on with this letter B playdough mat.
Letter B craft “b” is for Bunny (The Simple Parent)
Trace letter B (Little Dots Education) + Letter B phonics review (Daycare Worksheets)
Letter B Collage (Early Learning Ideas) – I love the ideas foun don this site! However, you have to sign up to grab the letter templates. Don’t worry, the Freebie Finding Mom has got you covered! You can find ABC bubble letters here for free.
Don’t forget to have your preschooler hop on Starfall to learn more about the letter of the week. I always have Sadie start off with the letter we are covering and then have a few minutes of free time on this site.
