Here’s what to do with those Thanksgiving Leftovers
Ahhh, Thanksgiving…the most laid back, no pressure holiday. Yes, I have prepared Thanksgiving dinner before. And, if you are in need of some last minute dinner ideas, check out this post to see what’s on our holiday menu this year. Today however is all about how to get the most out of those leftovers…
In our house, the last long weekend of Fall is usually celebrated with lots of leftovers, pulling out our Christmas decorations, and quality family time baking and decorating holiday cookies. It’s also when I purchase our Christmas pajamas, holiday ornaments, and holiday greeting cards.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving weekend tradition?
While we won’t have a ton of leftovers, I always try to make sure we eat as many as we can – less food waste and less time spent in the kitchen equals one happy mama. Here at home, the day after Thanksgiving is set up like an extended brunch. Yes, that means some apple cider mimosas for mom, and grazing instead of sit down meals.
But, with kids in the picture you can say repeating the same meal for the entire day after is a challenge. There will definitely be groans of despair coming from the peanut gallery if I don’t get creative in the kitchen. And, if you are likely to find yourself in the same situation, don’t worry… there are tons of ways to disguise your thanksgiving leftovers. Take a look at some of the yummy recipe ideas found around the web…
RECIPE IDEAS FOR THOSE THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS
Breakfast (Ultimate Leftover Turkey Sandwich, Project Meal Plan) This breakfast sandwich looks absolutely delicious. Nora and Sadie are just getting into breakfast sandwiches, and this one will not disappoint. If you have any biscuits leftover from Thanksgiving, I highly suggest making them for this recipe.
Breakfast sandwiches not your thing? Then, take a look at these stuffing cakes from Well Plated. The only thing I would do differently is fry the stuffing cakes in an air fryer. Yum, yum, yum!
One last recipe for those of you who are not the biggest fans of breakfast, don’t worry Justin is right there with you. He cannot stand most breakfast foods but, he can always get behind a good taco. Check out this recipe and let me know if you’re going to give it a try the day after!
Lunch (Thanksgiving Pizza, The Gunny Sack) – Wow, have you seen this one yet? Puff pastry is one of those items I try to keep in stock in the fridge because you never know when you are going to need it, and ooooo I am so glad I have some on hand (it’s one of those items that gets harder to find the closer you get to the winter holidays). I cannot wait to give this recipe a try!
Or, this Thanksgiving Leftover Soup – If it’s a little chillier where you live this time of year, and you are looking for a hearty soup to warm you up for lunch, then this recipe might be right up your alley. The only thing is you may have to add a few extra ingredients to your shopping list. But, most of us are sure to have extra carrots, celery and onions laying around anyway (you’ll need extra broth though). I would just chop the veggies beforehand along with any Turkey Day prep.
Dinner (Turkey Stew, What Should I Make For) – Okay, this savory stew looks sooo good! I’ve never had a creamy stew before but, I am willing to give it a try with this turkey stew. In my opinion, this recipe is perfect for making your Thanksgiving leftovers last even longer. This could be Saturday lunch too!
(Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Pot Pie, Damn Delicious) – this pot pie recipe looks damn delicious! Again, for finds like these, yet another good reason to keep puff pastry on hand. A quick and easy meal done in 35 minutes!
