FREE Preschool Homeschool Curriculum, Week 9 Transportation

transportation

Hi there! This week’s homeschool preschool theme is all about transportation.

In summary, our preschoolers will be immersed in art projects, sensory experiments and learn new songs about things that go. We will also be (re)introducing our preschoolers to classics such as the Wheels on the Bus as well as, reading The Little Engine that Could.

The letter of the week is G so, be sure to scroll ahead for more activities to build literacy. And, in math we will be working on the number 7, as well as other key topics like patterns and geometric shapes to ensure kindergarten readiness.

So, what do you say? Ready to dive into week 9? Let’s go…

Pre-K Homeschool Week 9 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 9 transportation theme:

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Transportation Pattern Practice (The McGrew Crew, Teachers Pay Teachers)

Trace and Count the number 7 (Clever Learner)

Transportation Graphing Worksheet (School Time Snippets

Take Flight Addition (Always Out Numbered, Teachers Pay Teachers)

Match Geometric Shapes (greatschools.org)

Building Shapes with Playdough (School Time Snippets)

TRANSPORTATION Fine/Gross Motor Skills

Lacing Card (Educlub)  – Lacing is such a great fine motor activity, check out this post from Your Therapy Source to learn more about the benefits of incorporating this activity into your homeschool preschool.

Build a Lego CarJustin was very into legos when he was younger. We have bins of his old collection here at home for the girls to dig into. This activity is one that the whole family could get into. Don’t stop at building the lego car, see where your preschooler’s imagination takes you.

Pom Pom Drop Game (The Imagination Tree) – This activity is simple to set up, and incorporates math skill building as well. No plastic bottles at home? That’s okay, use cupcake tins instead.

Play Keepie Upey (+ try to catch the balloon with a funnel) – You’ve got to love Bluey for breathing new life into a favorite pastime. It’s really amazing how long a single balloon can keep our girls busy. Add a funnel or plastic cup to the mix to make it a little bit more challenging.

Bean Bag Alphabet Fun (Your Therapy Source)  – another activity from Your Therapy Source. This activity encourages body awareness through the alphabet. Or, you could have a bean bag toss, and say: I’m going on a picnic and I am going to bringApples, a blanket, Clementines – you get the idea.

Language Arts

Introduce the Letter G (sound), Letter G playdoh mat + starfall Letter G – After introducing the letter G, and its sound, consider reading a short story highlighting the letter. You can ask your preschooler to be on the lookout for the sound of the letter G and raise their hand whenever they hear the G sound in the story. Similarly, you can also have your preschooler search for and circle the letter G in the print version.

Letter G Flashcards (Flashcard FoxReview words that start with G. Then quiz your preschooler by going through the deck and having her name the flashcards. Be sure to print out two sets of the flashcards to make a memory matching game. It’s one of Sadie’s favorite activities!

Letter G Phonics + Letter HuntThis activity is perfect with a set of dot markers!

Go on a Letter G Scavenger Hunt  -for this activity, I grabbed our set of magnet letters and sprinkled them throughout a room in our home. Be sure to tell your preschooler how many letters there are to find (incorporate a little math in this activity too). But, you could simply write the letter on different pieces of construction paper and tape them to different locations throughout your home too!

Letter G Collage (Early Learning Ideas) – these collages are a fun hands on way way to help your kiddo remember the letter of the week!

Read:
Here are some lovely books to read aloud to your preschooler so they can broaden their awareness of things that go:
The Little Engine that Could – Watty Piper
Road Trip, Steve Light
Maisy Goes on a Plane, Lucy Cousins
Ocean Meets Sky, The Fan Brothers
Hello Lighthouse, Sophie Blackall

SCIENCE/SENSORY

LEGO Car Ramp –  the perfect activity to have at the ready when you build your Lego car (see motor skills section).

Build a Paper Airplane easy and fun for all! I’ll usually build a few and the girls send their airplanes back and forth to one another. Or, we will see who can throw their paper airplane the farthest.

Make a Sailboat out of Craft Sticks (The Inspiration Edit)Our family has a love-hate relationship with trains. My nephew was obsessed when he was younger, and my husband despises them (for some inexplicable reason). So, this activity hinges on your relationship with trains, lol.

Magnet Powered Carbehold another cross over activity! Science mixed with art, how beautifully they seem to interconnect at times. You can even use your freshly built lego car for this one. Simply attach a magnet to your lego car, and with a magnet in hand watch with wonder as your lego car starts to move. A great place to pick up magnets for this activity is the dollar store. Ours are horseshoe shaped, and worked perfectly!

MUSIC

Here are a few fun transportation songs for your morning circle time:

Let’s Be Planes

The Wheels on the Bus

Let’s Take the Subway

Zoom Zoom Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon

Driving in My Car

CREATIVE PLAY

Build a Racecar out of a Cardboard Box

TRANSPORTATION THEME ART PROJECTS

As always, elements of art can be found throughout all of the subjects in this week’s theme but, here are a few more to incorporate throughout the week. Be sure to share which is your little one’s favorite in the comments!
