FREE Preschool Homeschool Curriculum, Week 18 – Weather
This week our preschoolers are going to observe the environment around them with a focus on daily weather patterns. Some of the activities you can look forward to are – a virtual field trip to a local weather station, as well as a picnic to classify clouds. For language arts, the letter of the week is X so, be sure to scroll ahead for more activities to build literacy.
Last week, we bumped up our reading level to level B. But, let your preschooler be your guide here. Children vary in their abilities to read, and you should meet your preschooler where they are. In other words, if your preschooler is still trying to grasp level A books, that’s okay! Or, if you’re already a level ahead, that’s okay too!
Just know that in Kindergarten our children will be expected to learn up to level D by the end of the year. So, no matter where you fall on the reading level scale, your preschooler will have a head start when it comes time to move up to Kindergarten.
In math we will be working on the number 16, as well as playing some fun math games! Our motor skill activities have us headed to the playground. You might consider having your cloud classifying picnic at a local playground. That way you can incorporate a bit of science, math games, and motor skills in one day.

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 18 weather theme:
Math Activities for Preschoolers
This week we are going to focus on playing math games. We Are Teachers has some great ideas for you! We chose: count on card game, number sense puzzles, hop along shapes + the shape scavenger hunt.
We are also moving on down the number line, and introducing the number 16 with this worksheet from Kindergarten Mom.
Fine/Gross Motor Skills
Week 18 fine motor skills:
Bead Pipe Cleaners in Colander
Pick up pom poms with clothespin
Gross Motor Skills:
Skip Races
Snake jump with jump rope. In this activity your preschooler will practice jumping forward and backward over a jump rope. You can progressively hold the rope up higher. Kind of like a reverse limbo. If your kiddos touches the rope, they get bitten by the (pretend) snake.
Go to the playground – climb the structures, walk on a balance beam forwards and backwards, and get those legs pumping on a swing (yes you can get your preschooler started with a big first push)
Language Arts
Introduce the letter “X” – show your preschooler the capital and lowercase letter X, and introduce the sound of this letter. Next, have your little one try to create the letter X on a playdough mat. Watch the letter “X” on Starfall.
Letter “X” writing practice and phonics review (Daycare Worksheets)
“X” is for xylophone craft from All Kids Network
Letter “X” scavenger hunt – if you have alphabet magnets, attach the letter “x” to the end of a craft stick with glue. Every time you head out of the house this week bring your craft stick with you. Perhaps give your preschooler a prize if he/she finds a certain number of the letter of the week.

Read 1 level B book with your preschooler each day this week. Strive for 10-20 minutes of reading time.
SCIENCE/SENSORY ACTIVITIES FOR WEATHER WEEK
Monitor the weather this week. Keep track of the temperature, general weather conditions, and precipitation in your Sunny/Cloudy/Rainy, and add the findings to your weather journal.
Teach your preschooler about the three types of clouds with Britannica for Kids. You can follow it up with this video from the Dr. Binocs show. Then, try out this cloud in a jar experiment from Fun Learning for Kids.
If it is going to be a particularly rainy week in your area, you might want to make this DIY rain gauge instead.
