FREE Preschool Curriculum Week 29, Monsters!

monsters-week-29-free-preschool-curriculum

Just two weeks left (including this one (week 29)) until the end of the year! That means pretty soon, your preschooler will be in kindergarten. Whether you’re about to cue the waterworks or are jumping with joy because it’s your last little one to head towards this milestone, I think we all can celebrate this big achievement.

Week 29 is a fun filled week with our monsters theme. In language arts, you will use this week to review the alphabet – name, sound and phonics. I cannot stress how important repetition is when it comes to this exercise, especially if you’re looking to build confidence when it comes to literacy.

Our monster theme truly comes alive during story time, science/sensory activities, and pretend play. So, make sure to read through this entire post to discover all of the fun in store for you and your preschooler this week. Well, are you ready to dive in? You got this! Let’s go…

Pre-K Homeschool Week 29 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 29 monsters theme:

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Everyday this week, practice counting to 100 by 1’s

Challenge your preschooler to complete a maze! My Homeschool Math has a ton of free printable mazes, you could pick one for each day of the week if your preschooler enjoys this activity.

Grab a pair of dice to work on those addition and subtraction skills. If adding/subtracting to six proves too easy for your preschooler, challenge them by adding a third die. Basically, you each roll one die, and your preschooler adds/subtracts the dots. It’s a fun way to work on math skills.

Review odd and even with this online game from Topmarks.

Work on sequencing numbers 1-20 with these worksheets from Jenny Thip over on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Fine/Gross Motor Skills

Here are some activities to develop your preschoolers fine and gross motor skills this week:
Gross Motor Skills
Head to the playground make sure to bring some chalk, a bouncy ball, and your preschoolers’ trike/bicycle.

Chalk – play hopscotch, doodle a monster on the sidewalk

Bouncy ball – have a game of catch, as your throwing the ball back and forth go through the alphabet and take turns coming up with words for each letter. For instance, “ A is for apple, B is for bear…” cycle through a few times if you can. Then, use the bouncy ball to kick back and forth.

Trike/Bicycle – get some practice in at the park!

Make sure  your preschooler can climb the ladders, pump and maintain momentum on a swing (with a helpful starting push).

Fine Motor Skills
Sort pom poms with tongs or tweezers, either by size or color – let your preschooler decide

Puzzle Time – check your local $1 store for puzzles with 12 or more pieces

Play with Legos or Magna Tiles – create a faraway kingdom, and pretend you have to guard it from a monster

Language Arts

Each day this week review all letters of the alphabet – name, sound + phonics.
You can do this by laying out a stack of ABC cards, and asking your preschooler to point to the letter.

The sight word this week is “you”, and it’s the last one for this preschool year! Kindergarten Mom has a great free printable to introduce this sight word to your preschooler.

Review the difference between vowels and consonants – lay out your stack of ABC cards, ask your preschooler to pull out the vowels – A, E, I, O, U – introduce that these letters have two sounds. And, each word has a vowel in it. Now its time to play vowel detective. Copy a page from your preschoolers favorite story book, hand them a highlighter, and ask them to find the vowels on the page. You might want to hand your preschooler a magnifying glass to make this activity more fun.

**Remember to read 1 level C book with your child each day.

Story Time Books:
The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson
Where the Wild Things Are, Maurice Sendak
The Color Monster, Anna Llenas
My Teacher is a Monster, Peter Brown
One Monster After Another, Mercer Mayer
