FREE Homeschool Preschool Curriculum, Week 23 – Body Geography

week-23-body-geography

This week we are introducing our preschoolers to the body geography!

In summary, we will be covering our traditional subject areas – math, music, arts and crafts, language arts, etc. Some of the activities you can look forward to are tracing your preschooler on chart paper (they might be amazed by how much they’ve grown)! And, in music some classic tunes will be the focus for morning circle time.  They will definitely get both you and your preschooler moving.

Additionally, the letter of the week is “V” so, be sure to scroll ahead for more activities to build literacy. I think you will enjoy the selected read aloud books too.  Remember, to take advantage of your local library for the selected books. In math we will be working on reinforcing numbers 1-20.

There are loads more activities to explore, just continue reading below.

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Touch the Number – create a set of flashcards displaying Numbers 1 -20, set out three at a time and quiz your preschooler by calling out one number. Create two piles, wrong and right. The wrong numbers are ones you will be focusing on this week.

Ordering Numbers 1-20 – a great exercise to reinforce the numbers your preschooler has learned so far. This is a great worksheet from Megaworkbook. An alternate activity is to place the numbers in a bag, as your preschooler picks each number see if they can identify it then put in order. Tip: start with numbers 1-10 and work your way up to 20.

Addition Practice Dice Game – grab a set of dice, one is for you, and one for your preschooler. You each roll a die, and your preschooler adds up the numbers. If this game proves easy, make it challenging by subtracting!

  • Jump rope
  • Practice opening Ziploc bags, lunch bags, and containers at home
  • Play with Legos or Magna Tiles
  • Puzzle time – check your local $1 store for puzzles with 12 or more pieces.

Language Arts

Introduce the letter “V” – show your preschooler the capital and lowercase letter “V”, and introduce the sound of this letter. Next, have your little one try to create the letter “V” on a playdough mat or geoboard. Watch the letter “V” on Starfall.

Letter “V” phonics and writing practice (Daycare Worksheets)

Letter “V” phonics review (Flashcard Fox) – build your preschoolers vocabulary by sharing the “V” words on these flashcards. Make sure to print out two sets to create a memory game.

Choose a letter “V” collage from Early Learning Ideas.

The sight words this week are “me” and “my”. Kindergarten Mom has a great free printable to introduce this sight word to your preschooler.

**Remember to read 1 level B book with your child each day.

Watch this video on the human body from the Story Bots!

Grab a pad of easel sized chart paper and trace your preschoolers body, and have him/her decorate their body outline.

Explore the five senses with these science experiments. Try to do one each day this week.

Music

This week we have three classic tunes for your morning circle time routine:

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes (Tip: start off slow then, take turns singing faster, and faster.)

If You’re Happy and You Know it

The Hokey Pokey

Arts + Crafts

Mirror Self Portrait – grab a mirror, and a set of crayons. Let your preschooler have fun drawing their very own self portrait.

Loose Parts Play – this activity from Pickle Bums kept Sadie (happy and) occupied while I was working on reading with big sister, Nora.

I love the x ray portraits from Pockets of Preschool. Simple materials, electrifying our weekly theme. Such a win-win!

Dramatic Play

Grab your preschoolers favorite action figures or stuffies, and play doctor’s office. If you don’t have a pretend doctor’s kit on hand, this one from Amazon looks great, and even combs with a white coat!
