Danielle’s Picks: 5 Things I Tried and Loved in August

Phew, what a month! August brought a lot of change for our little family. We moved to our new farmhouse (in a brand new state), celebrated Nora’s eighth (EIGHTH) birthday, and began some small, but mighty home improvement projects – like this full bathroom makeover. Projects are seemingly endless around here, and we are having a blast visualizing what this little farmhouse will become.

This is an adventure that Justin and I have been longing to start for quite some time now. So, we are trying to take the process slow and steady to savor as much as we can. Not to mention acclimate the girls to their new surroundings, all while starting homeschool. Wowzers, I guess I do have the tendency to bite off a bit more than I can chew…

Here are the things I tried and loved in August:

MOISTURIZE

Tried and Loved

I’ve been noticing some pesky, little fine lines showing up more and more around my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, they add an air of distinction to the dark circles that eight years of motherhood has gifted me. But, after really looking at myself in the mirror, I decided it was high time I did something about them! On a budget that is. So, I picked up this Roc Retinol Correxion Eye Cream. I apply this eye cream during my A.M. skincare routine before my serum. But, I could see myself adding it to my P.M. routine too.

READ

If you believe in the power of manifestation, this book is definitely for you. The author breaks down her Manifestation Equation step by step. There are also exercises to help you apply said equation in your own life. If you feel stuck but are ready to manifest the life of your dreams, this book could definitely inspire you to make it happen! I tried and loved it.

CLEAN

Tried and Loved Clean August 2022

I don’t know what took me so long to purchase a cordless vacuum. Seriously, if you’ve been holding out, just jump, it’s worth the investment. And, even if you don’t have pets at home, I highly suggest the Dyson V8 Animal. This vacuum is so light, I can even get the kids on board with using it in their rooms! Read that again. Yes, I have my eight and four year old vacuuming too!

WATCH

Tried and Loved August 2022

In my opinion, this movie is the perfect follow up to 2006’s Pride and Prejudice. I am a huge fan of Jane Austen’s novels, and have been known to watch Keira Knightley illuminate the screen for countless hours. Seriously, I’ve watched Pride and Prejudice back to back on multiple occasions. And, Persuasion has captivated me in the very same way. I know there are differing opinions about this one but, I love how this movie modernizes a beautiful, classic novel.

HEAL

Tried and Loved Tea Tree Roller

One thing is for certain, southern summers are hot and humid. And, that means bugs! I can now see why so many people wear jeans and sneakers around here, even on those 90 degree days that feel like 100. Justin, Sadie and I are bug magnets. Our legs, backs and arms are ridden with little red bumps, scabs and welts. Trust me, it’s not pretty.

Thank goodness we have this Tea Tree Roller on hand. It’s what we reach for to get rid of that incessant need to scratch, and allow our skin to heal.
