Free Homeschool Preschool Curriculum Week 5, Weather
As we move along to week 5 of our homeschool curriculum (weeks 4, 3, 2, 1), I have to let you know that it has taken every fiber of my being not to be like the happy camp counselor greeting you back for another week… it’s true, if you could see me on the other side of this screen, I am grinning from ear to ear while stopping myself from writing happy week 5 (!), in all caps of course. Regardless, I am so glad you’re here. Because that means that I can tell you this week’s theme is all about an introduction to weather for our preschoolers.
I must say, as far as the weather is concerned, today was brilliant… a beautiful 68 degrees, once the sun settled in. And boy what a beautiful sight it was to see most of the cars drive by with windows completely (rolled) down, with happy faces adorning each and every one. It’s one of those magical days gripping onto the warmth of summer, where everyone is grateful for a few more hours of warmth after many sobering brisk mornings. The brisk mornings that remind us just what Mother Nature truly has in store…
Pre-K Homeschool Week 5 Free Resources
Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 5 weather theme:
Math Activities for Preschoolers
Tangrams are a fantastic way to introduce patterns to preschoolers. To be honest, I love doing tangrams along side my girls on early mornings after breakfast while listening to either classical/jazz music in the background. For me, it’s as relaxing as coloring my “adult” coloring book. This tangram game would be perfect, or you can always go for this worksheet.
Number 4 is the number of the week so, you have to play this number 4 song from the Story Bots. And, for good measure, follow it up with this worksheet.
Data and Measurement are big skills that our preschoolers need to learn. And, I found a ton of free resources from Clever Lerner, take your pick!
Make a rectangle robot – I don’t know about you but, I’m in! A great way to solidify this smooshed square into all of our preschoolers lives.
Fine/Gross Motor Skills
For fine motor skills this week choose two of the activities from this list from Fun Learning for Kids. I chose Q-Tip Painting and Tracing Lines with Gems for Sadie this week, and plan to return to this list when I am in need of some more ideas.
For gross motor activities, we are going to use some empty plastic bottles (filled with water) to play skittles, along with Sadie’s size 3 soccer ball. I will most likely combine this activity with a ball toss for hand eye coordination
Language Arts
Introduce the letter of the week “S” alongside the letter of the week playdough mat.
Letter S phonics worksheet.
“S” is for snake craft + starfall letter “s”

Science + Sensory
Rain Cloud Jar – I love low cost yet, mind blowing activities, and yes this one fits the bill.

Music
Check out Chrome Music Lab – give your little one some screen time to experiment with music! This looks like fun for all ages.
Choose one or two weather songs/rhymes from Kidsparkz.
Make a homemade musical instrument.
Art
Create a Magnetic Weather Station.
Wind Blow Painting. I love this idea from Pockets of Preschool its sure to get messy but, the kids will love it!
