FREE Preschool Homeschool Curriculum, Week 12 – Migration

Migration

Phew! What a weekend we just endured here in New York. The mini heatwave we faced over the past couple of days was a difficult one to endure. It honestly felt like we skipped over spring entirely and found ourselves in the middle of summer. But thankfully, the heat broke and we were blessed with cool temperatures today. We needed it!

But, that didn’t stop us from installing the window units in anticipation of what’s to come. And yes, as the daughter of an HVAC guy I can tell you I am fantasizing of the central air that will be free flowing in my house one day. But, as far as this hundred year old rental house is concerned, window units are working just fine…

Enough about me, let’s get into Week 12 of our preschool homeschool curriculum. This week, we will be exploring migration…

Pre-K Homeschool Week 12 Free Resources

Here are some of the free resources I gathered from across the web to pull together our week 12 migration theme:

Math Activities for Preschoolers

Pattern Activity Worksheet (Kindergarten Worksheets) – a straightforward worksheet that will engage your preschooler in fine motor skills as well. This pdf explains why introducing patterns to preschoolers is so important, and gives some ideas for recognizing patterns all around us.

Introduce the Number 10 (Math Worksheets for Kids) – this worksheet will have your preschooler counting and coloring items up to the number 10.

Build Shapes with Playdough (School Time Snippets) – this is an activity I plan to return to multiple times throughout our preschool curriculum. I love that its hands on, and has our preschoolers looking at shapes in a different way. Be careful if you choose to use marshmallows for this one, quite a few may go missing!

10 Frame Addition to 10 (Free 4 Classrooms) – this worksheet is a great way to introduce the concept of the 10 frame in addition. And, is something that will be explored further in Kindergarten.

Measurement Worksheet (123 Homeschool for Me) – another fantastic resource for just about any homeschool topic you can imagine. There are a ton of measurement worksheets to choose from here. Why not have your little one choose?

Fine/Gross Motor Skills

Play Hopscotch (Empowered Parents) – with the weather warming up for us here in New York, I will find any excuse to head outside, and a game of hopscotch is one the whole family can take part in!

Play “Snake” with a Jump Rope (Very Well Family

Try to Skip with a Hula Hoop

Practice Name Writing

Differentiated Kindergarten has a fantastic list of 17 fine motor skills to incorporate into your lesson plans.

Language Arts

Introduce the letter “R”- show your preschooler the capital and lowercase letter R, and introduce the sound of this letter. Next, have your little one try to create the letter R on a geoboard. Watch the letter “R” on  Starfall. This is totally optional but I always let Sadie spend time on this site. Anywhere from 15-30 minutes. She has her favorite letters and activities but, the best part is that she is always learning when she spends time on Starfall.

Letter R phonics + writing practice (Daycare Worksheets) –  My love for these worksheets is not one that I hide. And, I am a huge fan of keeping effective resources consistent throughout the curriculum. I think this is a great activity to work on after introducing the letter of the week. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Letter R Memory Game (Flashcard Fox) – Memory games are one of my favorite activities. Sadie is always so proud of herself when she finds a match! And, she often asks to do this activity more than once. That is one of the key reasons why I share this activity with you, because having fun while learning is invaluable!

“R” is for Rainbow Craft (Engaging Littles)

This week take some time to review the letters learned so far – A, P, S, T, B, H, G, D, N, and R. Phew, we’ve been busy haven’t we?
