40 Great Read Aloud Books for Kids

40 Great Read Aloud Books | Danielle Ravitch

Hey friends! Before we jump into our second year of homeschool, I thought it would be best to share our favorite read aloud books from year one with you! I’ve even included a free printable checklist for you. That way you’ll be all set with some great ideas when you head out for your next library haul.

In our home, reading is something we look forward to each and every day. The girls have grown accustomed to daily read alouds. At bedtime, Justin and I will take turns reading chapter books like the Harry Potter series, the Wizard of Oz series or the creative works of Roald Dahl.

However, our daytime read aloud usually includes illustrated fairy tales and story books that visually capture the girls’ imaginations.

After each read I routinely ask the girls to share their favorite part of the story. And, it’s always fun to hear what they come up with.

While we have read a ton of story books, a lot of them did not make the list. Today I am sharing 40 of our favorites:
