What’s Left on Our 2021 Summer Bucket List
The sun is setting earlier and earlier each day but summer isn’t over just yet…
We still have day time temps promising to hit the 80s here in New York, and the end of summer, nighttime cool down where temps barely make it out of the low 60s. But, we can still leave our windows open, enjoy the deep sleep that the cool air brings, and listen to the sound of the crickets. A sound that seems to become more labored as the days go by. Nature’s reminder that fall is, indeed on its way…
Back in June, I shared our summer bucket list, and in July, we caught up and you learned about the activities we were able to cross of our list to date. But, summer has some surprises up her sleeve because some of our best adventures were never intended. But those my friends, are not on the bucket list so, let’s go ahead and chat about what we got into this summer from late July up until now.
OUR SUMMER 2021 BUCKET LIST
Go Miniature Golfing. One mid summer’s day, the fam decided to head out for some mini golf. It was cloudy, so that promised cooler temps, and if you’ve ever headed out mini golfing with a toddler than you know those cooler temps are extremely beneficial for your blood pressure. All jokes aside, we had a great time sharing a favorite past time with our girls. I have a ton of pictures of Justin trying to teach the girls how to line up their perfect mini-golf stance…keepsakes in the making, lol.
What’s one pastime you shared with your kiddos this summer?
Visit an Aquarium. We had a few choices available so that we could cross this one off the bucket list. But, when I learned that a ferry ride cost a little than it used to (when I used to take it over the sound for college), I promptly crossed the Mystic Aquarium (Maritime too!) off the list.
So, for us Eastern Long Islanders, that left a trip out to Riverhead (a trip we’ve made before) or supporting a local non-profit.
It was off to the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery where we spent our summer morning with another homeschooling family. We easily spent 2 hours here at the fish hatchery but, full disclosure we did bring a picnic along with us. They have picnic tables where you can post up, enjoy your snack/lunch and watch the turtles enjoy the sunshine.
…supporting a local, nonprofit all while learning more about our local ecology is a win-win.
Our Summer Trip to Space
Visit the Planetarium. In late July, in order to prep the girls for their first week back at home school, in late July, I brought summer camp home…and, the theme we decided on? Space week!! Check out this post for more on how we introduced our girls to Outer Space.
Hike to a Waterfall. Well, if it were up to me, this activity would not be crossed off of our summer bucket list. I mean, we didn’t really hike to the waterfall but, we did walk across the street in Beacon to visit one…does that count? I didn’t think so…
But Nora certainly told me it did, lol…maybe she doesn’t like hiking as much as I thought she did…
The transition from summer to fall is one of my absolute favorites. A new season is bound to bring on new adventures. In fact, I’m taking the activities we did not accomplish this summer and moving them onto our fall bucket list (thank goodness none involve swimming)! Have you drafted up you Fall bucket list yet?
