Bohemian Dream Style Board
I am in the planning phase of a new design project here at home! Well, the plan is kind of already in motion… the girls bedroom is getting a makeover and I am so excited!! This bohemian dream board has me swooning, and I can’t wait to get to work on the design.
So, what sparked this new project?
We finally got rid of the bunkbeds in the girls’ room!! I cannot explain how happy I am to see them go. At first, I thought bunk beds would be a great space saver but to be honest it feels like we have way more space without them.
Making the beds was a nightmare, and they took up so much real estate in the girls’ room. So, if you are considering bunkbeds, take a long, hard look at your space before taking the plunge. And, make sure you purchase from a quality retailer/craftsmen.
We had the bunkbeds for a little over a year, and when Justin took them down he noticed that a ton of the wood planks were splitting. So, from a safety standpoint I would not purchase bunkbeds again. Not to mention that we had to turn away a buyer we already had lined up to take them off our hands.
BOHEMIAN DREAM INSPO
I love everything about this bohemian dream style board – its classic, yet you can add whimsical elements to the space so, it doesn’t feel so grown up. My girls are still in the single digits, and while part of me knows they are getting older, all of me wants to hang onto their playful, carefree nature for as long as possible.
I think this style board captures both of their personalities well. Both Nora + Sadie love the colors pink and golden. I love the more structured, detailed design of the table lamp, and night table paired with the cozy + playful vibe of the area rug and coverlet set. The natural tones of the wood and catch all baskets definitely bring warmth to the space.
The earthy, romantic vibe of the boho style is an aesthetic that will grow along with them. For instance, for the next few years those catch all baskets will be filled with toys and stuffed animals but, in the future they may be filled with books and extra throw blankets. The wall art is the perfect addition to the color scheme, and will just pop in the space.
A SHIFT TOWARD MINAMALISM
An unspoken theme behind this redesign is our desire to live more simply. Over the past few years we have been gradually pairing down our belongings. Our mission is to focus less on materials, and more on moments together as a family.
So, for the girls we have started capsule wardrobes. We are also in the process of getting rid of their toy bin. We purchased a footlocker for each of them and they can only have as many toys their footlocker will hold.
I am not going to lie, its not an easy process. Especially coming from a family that wants to make sure our girls do not do without. So, as we are trying to reframe our thoughts with our lifestyle shift, we also have to constantly remind our family of our mission. The kids are the easy ones…
I’d love to learn more about your design aesthetic! Do you love to use lots of color, or a more neutral palette?!
