A Spring Visit to Harbes Farm Barnyard Adventure

Last week the girls and I spent an afternoon at Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck. And, while the farm is about an hour east from where we sit, here on the North Shore, it was well worth the drive. Truthfully, it was by chance that we snagged free passes to the barnyard adventure.

We arrived on the farm around noon, so we headed straight to the barnyard booth to pick up our wristbands, and had a quick visit with the baby chicks at the booth. While we were there, we also purchased some food to feed the goats, and sheep. You might remember Sadie’s love of baby goats was born during our trip to this family farm in Wading River last year. Well, her love is still going strong. So much so that we may have some goats of our own in the near future.
Since we were well stocked with food for the farm animals, we decided to make them our first stop. While Harbes Farm is home to pigs, chicken, and bunnies, you are only allowed to feed the sheep and goats. Don’t worry, there are a ton of them that look forward to your visit. New (to us) at Harbes Barnyard
When we were out of food, the girls were ready to explore, so we headed over to the spider web climber. Since there weren’t many families on the farm during our weekday visit, it was just Nora and Sadie on the spider web, and they commented on how easy it was to run across from side to side. But, I think it would have been a bit more challenging if there had been more climbers shaking things up a bit.
Some time has passed since we last visited the farm, and there were some new (to us) play structures that the girls really enjoyed, like the Goat Mountain Slides, and the Super Silo Obstacle Course. There’s also the Sports Zone, tether ball games, and Farmer’s Foosball for the athletes in your family. And, of course another favorite, the Jumbo Jumpers. But, if you’re visiting the farm on a sunny day, make sure to bring a pair of socks along, the bounce pillows can get pretty hot.
After spending a couple of hours on the farm, we headed over to the farm stand for some ice cream, the girls requested mint chocolate chip, and I went for a coffee chip. Did you know their ice cream is made from the produce grown right on the farm? And, it was pretty delicious too! They had a peach ice cream I was dying to try during our last visit but the line at the farm stand was too long for our then, very overtired kiddos.
HARBES Vineyard
Before heading back home, I made a stop at the Wine Barn. And, wow the interior reminded me of some of the tasting rooms we explored in Napa years ago. The barn is large but somehow they made the expansive space feel warm, and cozy. I picked up a bottle of the Dry Rose, the perfect treat to cap off a (late -Spring) day well spent on the farm.
